I My 1986 Mayfair with new wheels!

Meet 'Figaro', my 1986 Mini Mayfair auto. Originally I brought him to get me over the time Bluebelle was being repaired, but he is now part of my little mini family! When he arrived his gearbox was not very happy, in the mornings he didn't like to go into gear at all. Unlike Bluebelle, Figaro didn't like the wet and I got stranded during some heavy rain. Luckily, a fellow mini owner came to my rescue with a rain shield for the engine electrics. Figaro has behaved ever since.

Naughty Mini

Figaro also didn't like me to know what speed I was doing as the cable was broken (I had to drive by the revs), It wasn't too much of a problem with a slipping automatic gearbox - I doubt I ever did more than 25 anyway!!! Since then the little Mini Mayfair has been treated to a new engine and gearbox with all new mounts, new high power headlamps, new wheel bearings, all new brakes, wheel cylinders, handbrake cables and new master cylinder, new steering rack plus almost every suspension component, battery, fuse box, some switches, indicator and light stalks, new Pioneer Stereo & aerial, new rubber seals for windscreen, rear window (and a new rear window) & side opening rear quarter lights, new exhaust, rear seatbelts. A new set of genuine Rover Alloys and wheel nuts were fitted just before Stamford Hall show! Next on the list are some door repairs and bumpers.

And he is still naughty in the mornings and doesn't like waking up (needs a carburetor overhaul)

The brochure for this little car reads:
The most luxurious Mini ever made - and already a firm favorite, the Mayfair is a little jewel of a car. Still a totally practical and economical Mini, but with a special chic all of its own.

Stylish coachlines and 'Mayfair' motifs provide tasteful exterior identification. Inside, the Mayfair is lavishly trimmed with plush Rochelle fabric, on seats, door trims and side casings. Front seats recline, and have adjustable head restraints.

Equipment levels compliment the attractive upholstery, with a push button LW/MW radio, four spoke steering wheel, twin door mirrors, twin door bins, tinted glass, face level air vents, opening rear quarter windows and cut-pile carpet. Instrumentation is neatly displayed in a binnacle in front of the driver, and includes a temperature gauge. Other Mayfair refinements include a molded handbrake grip, a locking fuel filler cap, and styled road-wheel covers.
